Special Needs Assistants

Special Needs Assistants work specifically with children with special educational needs (SEN) be it learning, physical or behavioural difficulties. Generally this is on a one-to-one basis with a child, supporting them in the classroom as well as working with them individually. As well as opportunities to work 1:1, TimePlan works with Special Education Schools covering their teaching assistant needs.

What skills do TimePlan’s school support staff need?:

  • excellent literacy and numeracy skills 
  • a keen interest in education
  • ability to form good working relationships with both staff and pupils
  • relevant experience
  • good organisational skills

Experience in schools or working with children is an advantage and we recommend volunteering in schools if you are looking to start working as teaching assistant.

Qualifications:

  • Specialist staff should have experience or hold undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in the relevant subject.
