Lewisham is a district based in South London, with good transport links to and from the centre. There is a long high street, full of diverse shops, markets and people. There is also an annual programme of themed markets, which include French, Polish, International and a market made up of local traders.
 
Blackheath is Lewisham’s centre, with many pubs, restaurants and café’s in an appealing village-like atmosphere with charming cafes and Victorian churches. The heath itself has great views, with tranquil ponds, vast open spaces and big Georgian houses around the edges
 
 
The Horniman Museum, located in Forest Hill, contains a Living Waters aquarium, 16-acre garden and a new eco-building, the Centre for Understanding the Environment. (www.horniman.ac.uk)

There is a historic riverfront with old warehouses and as the land inclines, further south, there are excellent views looking north over the river and Docklands, from Telegraph Hill and Hilly Fields.
