SEN & Inclusion

In the UK, most children with identified SEN are educated inclusively, i.e. in mainstreams schools.  The term SEN covers a range of ‘learning needs’ and these are well documented and a matter of record in all schools.  The person responsible for SEN provision at a school is called the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator).  If you are working as a supply teacher on a day-to-day, short-term placement or long-term basis you will need have early contact with the SENCO in order to teach successfully in the classroom.

Below, is the “Inclusion” page view from the National Strategy site http://nationalstrategies.stan3dards.dcsf.gov.uk which goes into very helpful detail regarding all aspects of SEN classifications.  It also gives information on publications related to SEN provision.
